The Kea is world's only alpine parrot. It is the only parrot in the world that lives in an alpine region, and it lives only in New Zealand, only in South Island, and only in the Southern Alps.

It is a very smart bird, and despite the small area it lives in, its not near extinction at all. There are signs not to feed the Kea all over the place, as the bird's very smart and knows how to get people to give him food.

For some reason the bird also likes rubber. I have no idea why, but apparently you can end up with holes in your car and boots if you leave them in an area frequented by Kea.
